Towing Company Trains with Firefighters!

Leesburg Towing Company Participates in Cross-Training Program with Loudoun County Fire Department

It was our pleasure to be the towing company requested to participate in a cross-training exercise with the Loudoun County Fire Department in December 2021. We sent a heavy duty towing operator and his heavy wrecker to the Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Training Academy in Leesburg, VA.

Over the course of two days, the fire department would go through various scenarios of road accidents. The purpose of the training was to learn how to utilize a heavy wrecker to make their recoveries more efficient.

The scenarios covered were:
1. School bus collided with a passenger vehicle and ended up wedged by a jersey wall.
2. Oil tanker rolled on top of a car.
3. Garbage truck rolled over onto a car

Now these were not just some hypothetical scenarios! The heavy wrecker operator and the fire department actually played out the real scenarios. If a scenario called for a school bus to collide with a car, the firefighters would be working with a real bus and car!

This type of training is invaluable. It allows the firefighters and heavy wrecker operators to perfect their techniques in a controlled environment. This way, when it comes time to flip over a truck on US-15, the team can be confident in their rescue.

Thank you to the Loudoun County Fire Department for inviting Road Runner Wrecker Service to be a part of yet another amazing training course. We cannot wait for the next one!

Details of Leesburg Towing Company Participates in Cross-Training Program with Loudoun County Fire Department

A heavy towing company was needed to participate in a training course at a local fire department. The towing company sent a heavy duty tow truck operator and his heavy wrecker to participate in the two day course.

The first scenario the towing company needed to set up was a collision between a school bus and a BMW. The towing company’s heavy towing operator needed to set up the scene so that the BMW was wedged under the school bus.

The fire department then analyzed the scenario and had the tow truck operator lift the rear of the school bus into the air. This allowed the firefighters to easily access the BMW (and it’s imaginary passengers)!

The second scenario that the towing company needed to set up was a collision between an oil tanker truck (trailer only for the course) and a Volkswagen. Once again, the towing company demonstrated how having a heavy wrecker on scene facilitated the recovery.

The third scenario the towing company worked on was a garbage truck rolled over onto a car. The heavy wrecker operator expertly lifted the garbage truck off of the crushed car.

For each of the scenarios, the towing company would need to stage the vehicles in an accurate way.
