74,000 lb Fire Truck Tow

Fire Truck Tow Team Work Hard to Get Fire Truck to the Repair Shop!

The fire truck tow team at Road Runner has been keeping busy in the last month. A firehouse in Sterling, VA, requested Road Runner’s help with a heavy tow. The firefighters were running routine maintenance checks on their ladder trucks when they realized that one of their trucks had transmission issues. No matter how hard they tried, they could not get the truck out of third gear! Not to state the obvious but this is definitely not an ideal situation for an emergency response vehicle!

Thankfully, this particular fire station had plenty of other trucks in perfect working order. That being said, we would always prefer for our local fire departments to be fully equipped at all times! Bo made his way to the firehouse within 20 minutes of receiving the call. After a little chat with the affable firefighters, Bo turned his attention to the task at hand.

He backed up his 50 ton wrecker to the front of the 74,000 lb ladder truck. Using his wheel lift system, he hooked onto the front axle of the truck. Bo then proceeded to disconnect the driveshaft and made sure to run air through the brake system in order to release the breaks. With the firetruck perfectly prepped, Bo drove it to a nearby repair center.

Good work out there, Bo!

A fire truck tow team was immediately dispatched from Road Runner Wrecker Service’s office located at 45660-B Woodland Road, Sterling, VA, 20166. The fire truck tow team was equipped with a 50 ton wrecker which was more than sufficient to transport a 74,000 lb ladder truck.

Twenty minutes after dispatch received the call from the firehouse, the fire truck tow team arrived. The towing team inspected the fire engine. They made note that the 74,000 lb truck seemed to have transmission issues as it was stuck in third gear.

The fire truck tow team backed up their heavy wrecker towards the front of the fire engine. Using their wheel lift, the fire truck tow team hooked onto the front axle of the fire truck. Once hooked onto the truck, the fire truck tow team disconnected the driveshaft. The towing team ran air through the brake system in order to release the brakes and prep the fire engine for transport.

The fire truck tow team did one final security check to ensure that the fire truck was ready to be transported. Once the security check was complete, the fire truck tow team made their way to the fire house’s designated repair shop. The repair shop was located 15 miles from the firehouse.
